MlleOGphan: My (Not So) Short List on why, while "The Amazing Spiderman" has its charms, Andrew Garfield is NOT Peter Parker.
1. Really- NO ONE FIGURED OUT HE WAS SPIDERMAN?!
I can understand a few close calls, like giving his mask to the kid in the burning car (charming moment, I’ll give him that one), or getting it ripped off or torn slightly on occasion, or of course even the obligatory montage of him discovering he…
I have to disagree…
I’ve been reading spiderman comics for years and own several hundred issues, including the now discontinued spectacular and sensational series. The fact of the matter is that in the beginning and later on for that matter, Peter Parker is a good man, but never should you confuse him for a goody-two shoes. He constantly struggles with doing the easy thing or the right thing and THAT’s what makes him a relatable character, not his whining or bitching. And He hardly does that in the comics either. Clearly you have associated Tobey’s horrible rendition of the character as THE spider man. How can you have such an issue with his “stealing” when that in reality is a toned down version of him letting an armed robber get away with bags of cash? I mean are you even an actual spider man fan? Peter Parker has times where he’s actually cheating on mary jane or trying to balance between two women at once. HE’S NOT PERFECT. And actually depending on which of the many re-tellings of Peter’s origins, he’s hardly ever a friendless dweeb/nerd. He’s an average kid who’s biggest issue is getting beaten on by Flash Thompson.
Also you have such a problem with him getting the ladies because that’s too cool? HELLO! In the comics he ends up dating gwen stacy AND Mary Jane, both the hottest girls around. And if you did know something about the comics you’d know that he and gwen pretty much eye each other from the beginning.
As for hiding his physique, in the comics when he first gets his powers he does tend to show off. A LOT. And he almost slips up many times in the beginning in fact he never even gets serious about being inconspicuous until AFTER he sees the direct damage his secret identity can inflict.
Oh and the “he would never never never says that the best promises are the ones you can’t keep” issue!? He promises captain stacy he won’t date gwen to keep her safe in the comics. He dates her again in the comics. because of their involvement she dies in the comics. wait why is this portrayal of spider man not the real spider man again? because instead of just breaking his promise like in the comics he also happened to declare that he would?
As for treating aunt may like crap? Really trying to hide his bruises from her is treating her like crap!?
So yes you’re right about certain technical things about his revealing his identity too many times sure, and the movie definitely had problems (lizard) but other wise you clearly know nothing about what THE real spider-man of the original comics is. And if you don’t like the movie because you liked tobey more and you liked that FALSE portrayal of the character more. Then say that you liked him more. But seriously don’t try to mask your complaint with this you know what spider-man is crap, cuz you don’t.
I know I’m ranting but hey I’m bored and that’s my childhood you’re messin with
